Audit Your Exposure

Identify which of your daily activities qualify as "designated services" and define the scope of the AML/CTF obligations your specific business faces.

FEBRUARY

Complete a Risk Assessment

The cornerstone of compliance. You must identify, document, and quantify the specific money laundering and terrorism financing risks inherent to your industry and client base.

MARCH

Register with AUSTRAC

Officially register as a reporting entity. This establishes your business within the regulatory ecosystem and ensures you are correctly identified by the regulator.

APRIL

Develop a Compliance Program

Formalise your written AML/CTF Program. This is the mandatory "rulebook" that outlines exactly how your business will meet its legal obligations, manage risk, and handle reporting.

MAY

Set up a Smart System

Manual spreadsheets won't survive an audit. You need a reliable, automated workflow to collect, verify, screen, and store client information securely and transparently.

JUNE

Train Your Team

The final hurdle. Everyone in your business, from front-of-house to management, must understand exactly what AML obligations mean for their role.

JULY

Operation Live

The obligations begin. Your program is active, your team is trained, and your digital workflows are prepared to capture, evidence, and report as required by AUSTRAC from day one.

Answers, before you ask.

Who is AUSTRAC?

AUSTRAC (Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre) is Australia’s
financial intelligence unit and the AML/CTF regulator. AUSTRAC monitors financial
transactions to prevent, detect, and respond to criminal abuse of the financial
system. Visit https://www.austrac.gov.au to learn more.

When do we need to enrol with AUSTRAC?
AUSTRAC enrolment for Tranche 2 entities opens on 31 March 2026. Businesses
providing designated services with a geographical link to Australia must enrol before their AML/CTF obligations begin on 1 July 2026. Enrolments must be completed by 29 July 2026.
Does NextGenAML submit reports directly to AUSTRAC?
The platform generates the report and sends it to your assigned compliance officer for review. The Compliance Officer can submit after he conducts his due diligence preserving the human control in the loop. Submission status, date, and reference are captured inside the case record for audit continuity.
Do small businesses really need AML/CTF controls?
Yes. Businesses that provide AUSTRAC defined designated services must incorporate AML/CTF Controls. These include and are not limited to Real Estate Agents and Agencies, Lawyers and Conveyancers and Accounting Practitioners. AUSTRAC has mandated that all new regulated entities should be ready to meet compliance guidelines by the 1st July, 2026. All businesses must comply, regardless of size.
